National minimum wage increase
The Government has announced the national minimum wage rate for 2009/10. With effect from 1 October 2009, the national minimum wage adult rate (paid to workers aged 22 and over) will rise from its current level of £5.73 per hour to £5.80 per hour, an increase of 1.2%.

This is in line with the increase recommended by the Low Pay Commission (LPC) in its 2009 report.

The government has also announced that, with effect from 1 October 2009 the national minimum wage development rate (for workers aged 18 to 21) will rise from £4.77 per hour to £4.83 per hour. Also the youth rate (for workers aged 16 and 17) will rise from £3.53 per hour to £3.57 per hour.

Holiday Entitlement
The annual holiday entitlement will increase from 1 April 2009 to 5.6 weeks from 4.8 weeks. Those who work part time are entitled to the same level of holiday (so 5.6 times your usual working week). Bank and public holidays can be included in your minimum entitlement.

Statutory Payments
The Statutory Sick Pay weekly rate will be £79.15 for payment weeks starting 06th April 2009.

The Statutory Maternity Pay for payment weeks starting on or after 5th April 2009 is, first six weeks 90% of the employee’s weekly earnings and the remaining weeks at £123.06.

The Statutory Adoption and Paternity pay weekly rate is the lesser of 123.06 or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings for payment weeks starting on or after 5th April 2009.

P45 & P46 Documents
From April 2009, we must file P45 and P46 forms through the HM Revenue & Customs on-line gateway. Your starters and leavers cannot be logged if any information is missing.

19th – Cheque payments for month/quarter ended 5 October should reach your Accounts Office by this date.
Cheque payment of your PAYE Settlement Agreement for 2008-09 (if any) should reach your Accounts Office by this date.
22nd – Electronic payments for month/quarter ended 5 October should have cleared in your Accounts Office Bank Account by this date.
Electronic payment of your PAYE Settlement Agreement for 2008-09 (if any) should reach your Accounts Office by this date.

NOVEMBER
2nd – Forms P46 for quarter ended 5 October to reach us by this date.
5th – Onwards: Expect the letter indicating your online filing and electronic obligations for 2010-11.
19th – Cheque payments for month/quarter ended 5 November should reach your Accounts Office by this date.
20th – Electronic payments for month/quarter ended 5 November should have cleared in your Accounts Office Bank Account by this date.

DECEMBER
19th – Cheque payments for month/quarter ended 5 December should reach your Accounts Office by this date.
22nd – Electronic payments for month/quarter ended 5 December should have cleared in your Accounts Office Bank Account by this date.
End – If you are subject to IR35 Service Companies legislation, we recommend that you start to prepare your 2008-09 P14s if you need to acount for a balancing deemed payment by 31st January.

JANUARY
19th – Cheque payments for month/quarter ended 5 January should reach your Accounts Office by this date.
22nd – Electronic payments for month/quarter ended 5 January should have cleared in your Accounts Office Bank Account by this date.
End – Register to file your 2009-10 PAYE return online – IF YOU ARE A CLIENT OF COX & CO, WE WILL ALREADY HAVE THIS IN PLACE FOR YOU!!

FEBRUARY
Early – Expect to receive your notification to file your Employer Annual Return (P35 and P14s) for 2009-10.
2nd – Forms P46 for the quarter ended 5 January to reach HMRC by this date.
19th – Cheque payments for month ended 5 February should reach your Accounts Office by this date.
22nd – Electronic payments for month ended 5 February should have cleared through your Account Office Bank Account by this date.
